Good-bye, Tales of Midgar! 1998-2003

The Tales of Midgar, as an interactive writing list, has been officially closed. We are currently in the process of collecting old stories and other information about the characters who have been a part of the Tales of Midgar.

If you would like to contribute, please subscribe to the Tales of Midgar Mailing list (midoog at yahoogroups) and leave your opinions and your contributions. You may also contact former Administrator and Story Maintainer Arcana on the web board Scrapped Mine.

Thank you, everyone, who has been a part of this list.

Sincerely, - Arcana

What are the Tales of Midgar?

The Tales of Midgar may be termed a "Role-playing Interactive Fiction", "Tag-Team Fanfiction", or "Writing Role-Playing Game". The term was invented by Irwin Kwan, who is the ringleader of the group.

The Tales of Midgar is an ongoing story that takes place in the world of Final Fantasy VII. The members of the Tales of Midgar write individual stories, called posts, that tell a small portion of the story from a character's point of view.

The end result is a long piece of writing that interlocks and intertwines. A writer in the Tales of Midgar lives in the world of Final Fantasy VII through his or her character. The actions of the character can impact the other characters in the story, therefore affecting the outcome of the story.

Thus, the name "Interactive Fiction" is quite an appropriate term; when a participant joins the Tales of Midgar, he or she has the power to change the entire story.

How Do I Join The Tales of Midgar?

The Tales of Midgar have now closed down. You will not be able to join, and all information here is displayed for archival purposes only.

The "Original Tales of Midgar" and "Tales of Midgar: Revolution"

Tales of Midgar has a long history.

The game originally started up in early 1998 and went strong until mid-1999 when it went into low activity due to lack of interest and player time. This part of the game, which is listed as Chapters 1 and 2 in the Archives, is referred to as the "Original Tales of Midgar".

Tales of Midgar: Revolution is the direct continuation from the Original Tales of Midgar. It takes place in the same time line, but in Revolution we start with almost all-new characters and a setting three years after the Original Tales of Midgar.

You do not need to have been part of the Original Tales of Midgar to join up for Revolution, nor do you need to read all of the archives. You only need to read the ruls to join and to understand the events leading up to the current time (which are summarized on the Joining page). However, you may meet up with a few characters from the Original Tales of Midgar, and perhaps they will relive a few old experiences and exchange a few stories if you get a chance to talk with them.

But still, their adventures are in the past. We concentrate on the future of Revolution.
