Tales of Midgar:
Main Character Journies

This document describes the locations and general quests of the main characters of Final Fantasy VII and the Tales of Midgar after the Shinra Revolution of July 13, 1999.

It also describes what you need if you wish to role-play a main character from the game. If the character has an asterix, it means I prefer to have a player for that particular character before starting the game.

What You Need to Be A Main

There are a number of qualities you should possess if you want to write for a main character from Final Fantasy VII.

  • You must be a good short story writer.
Mains are important and people like to pay attention to them. If you want to write for a main, be sure you write quality posts.
  • You must play the character correctly.
You must at least reflect the major parts of the character in your role-playing. Although you may wish to introduce different perspectives and motives into your character, you must still stick with their base personalities.
  • You must show creativity.
In this game, where we place the main characters in an interesting and new setting, you must show how your character was affected by the past events. The mains were involved in the first Chapters of the Tales of Midgar, and thus would feel the influence of the sudden change in events: the revolution of Shinra, the disbanding of AVALANCHE, et cetera.
  • Please limit the number of mains you control.
It's silly and no fun if you get three mains while Joe Schmo gets nothing even though he knows Cid inside-out.
  • You must follow the rough guidelines given below.
So everyone's not totally confused, I wrote up general sketches of what the characters did in the Tales of Midgar, and where they went just after the Revolution. You can follow this guideline roughly, but I allow LOTS of room for flexibility. Even though I describe a few events of their lives just after the Shinra Revolution, there is still three unwritten years of journies and travels of the main character you are writing for. You MUST MUST MUST write what your character has been up to for these last three years if you wish to play him/her.

  • The Mains

  • Cloud Strife
The ex-SOLDIER. During the Black 36 trials, he lost his right hand and had to adapt to using a one-handed sword in his left hand. Just after AVALANCHE disbanded, he left the group without any words and seemed to disappear. He did not leave any word of where he was planning on going.

  • Barret Wallace
The leader of AVALANCHE was killed during the Stadium Execution of Wedge, but he died bravely and valiantly, and placed his faith in AVALANCHE that they would succeed in protecting the planet. So far, it seems that they've done their job. His body lies underneath blooming flowers in the back of Sector 5's Church.

  • Tifa Lockhart
The martial artist took over the position of AVALANCHE's leader after disbanding the group for two months when Barret Wallace died. She resumed command of the group and took the task of removing Hojo's deadly robots during the Midgar Festival. After the Shinra Revolution, she kept the group together, wary of any suspicious behaviour, but as soon as the government was elected and judged stable, she disbanded the Rebel group. In the meantime, she has relaid claim to her bar, Seventh Heaven, in the sector seven slums and is working to build up its reputation.

  • Aeris Gainsborough
See Aeris' P-sheet on the Persona Page

  • Red XIII
The lab animal was never formally inducted into the AVALANCHE group, though Rio the Ninja referred to it often. After he was freed from Shinra's grip, he returned to Cosmo Canyon to learn more about the planet and his species.

  • Yuffie Kisaragi
Yuffie joined Rio as he left Midgar during his journey for knowledge. She was intent on acquiring more materia. Although the disbanding of Shinra's government is a great achievement for her country Wutai, she is still stealing materia in the hopes that Wutai will become a glorious nation once again.

  • Cid Highwind
Cid Highwind was employed momentarily by Shinra to transport a large artifact called the Nexus. During a mission for another Rebel group called the Marauders, he killed Ariana Shinra (the vice-president) by accident and ran away seeking refuge. His crime has been forgiven and Cid Highwind now serves as Commodore for an Air Fleet.

  • Vincent Valentine
Vincent is still locked away in a coffin, unwilling to make his nightmares go away.

  • Cait Sith (Reeve)
Sorry guys, Reeve is dead. He was killed when protesting the release of Black 36. However, his toy, Cait Sith, still lies around, unused.

  • *Sephiroth
See Sephiroth's P-sheet at the Persona Page

  • Hojo
See Hojo's P-sheet at the Persona Page. In addition, please ask Etrius if you'd like Hojo to be involved in your character's past.

  • Tseng
Tseng ran away with Rufus after the Revolution and is currenty still serving him as the Leader of the Turks.

  • Reno
Reno died during one of the attacks on Shinra HQ.

  • Rude
Rude is currently doing a combination of police retraining and mental rehabilitation to convert his skills from a force of evil to a force of good.

  • Elena
See Elena's P-sheet at the Persona Page

  • *Rufus Shinra

  • Scarlet
Scarlet died during a jailbreak by Synth Blazefire.

  • Heidegger
After serving temporarily as an acting President, he stepped down as soon as the Midgar Elections were held. He has been hired again as the Minister of Defense in charge of Midgar's external security.

  • Palmer
Ever since the disbanding of the Space Program, no funds were allocated to the prospect of going into space again. Consequently, the Space Division was scrapped and Palmer was fired.
