Her own colleagues are weary of her though there are some that are willing to prove that she is fallible. ~~ -Background: As a child Veronica told the truth, every wrong she did she honestly told someone about it, when caught. Veronica also ensured that rules were obeyed when people were around her, people just found her to be hard to be around. She never thought that maybe rules could be wrong. Veronica never swayed from these policies until one day her truth telling led to the deaths of several innocent people. It was during elementary school, on her Class E5, that this happened, but before the event she had been very lonely. Telling everyone the truth of things had cost her many friends. Like holidays: She had destroyed the myths of several of them and reported them to her classmates. On one particular lonely day Veronica had been sitting in a secluded section of the playground feeling rather miserable as from the distance she could see other girls and boys playing a fun looking sport. Veronica really wanted friends but she was so adamant upon her young views that she didn't dare deviate. She suddenly heard voices, distant and soft, coming from the front of the school. Curious she got up and went to locate the voices. As she reached the wall of the school that lead towards the parking lot the voices became argumentative. "You have no proof, officer," one voice, a deep rumbling voice, declared. "The recess hour is almost over so you better leave." "Not without Vendriks Forscyth," a female voice said firmly. Veronica knew of whom they spoke, she had been spellbound by the news report about the escaped serial killer. Everything SNN, The Shinra News Network, reported about the event she knew. "He is not here. Do you think the kids would be playing and our daily routine un-shattered if a homicidal maniac was loose in the school?" There was a way he said this that caused her to disbelieve the male voice. "I'll be back tomorrow and believe me, if I do get that search warrant then you had better hope he's not in there." Veronica heard the officer walk away, when the police car had disappeared Veronica heard a new voice. "What if she does return with a search warrant what then," this voice was worried. "Then we fight. They must not be allowed to find him." Veronica knew then that they were doing something and that she would help the police find this scary man that was more than likely in their school. She heard doors close and she rushed to see where they were going. She had no idea who was hiding the murderer but she figured that they weren't going to be in teaching today. Veronica noticed that room that they had entered was the power distribution room. Heedless of the warning signs she entered the room and found nothing but the loud and large equipment. Disappointment lit her face as she looked about the room, there were no doors and no ladders up. Veronica went to leave when she tripped over a heavy looking metal plate. It had moved and a stream of light from below caught her eyes. She pushed it aside and saw a ladder traveling down a wide tunnel. Down into the grimy, dirty, and cruel slums. The shrill tone of the whistle telling her that recess was over was barely audible but she heard it and rushed from the room. The next day during morning recess the Midgar Security Force Officer returned and in her hand was the warrant. Veronica had waited all morning for this. Once she told the Officer and the people were punished then she would be seen as a hero for helping the MSF. She might even have a few friends. Veronica raced to the Officer who pounded on the front of the Principal's door. "I know where they are hiding him," she said catching the officer's attention. "Aren't you supposed to be playing or something little girl." Veronica frowned, "But I do." Veronica grabbed the officer's slender hand and pulled her away towards the Power Distribution Room. She pointed out the covered hole and the officer quietly pulled it open. Voices wafted through the hole. "He's still too injured to move," the voice from yesterday said unhappily. "But he is safe down here isn't he," a concerned female voice asked. "Yes he is, no one knows about this place, not even the MSF." The officer covered the hole and dragged her out. Seconds later she was calling into a two way radio calling in for help. Veronica was feeling uneasy and this feeling grew as she saw a military transport truck stop in the parking lot. Strong looking men got out carrying large guns and even larger swords, their eyes glowed with an eerie green. Veronica's unease turned to anxiousness as they purposely entered the room and disappeared down the ladder. Moments later Veronica heard screaming and gunshots then deadly silence. The MSF Officer gently held Veronica's shoulders as she stood pale and near to tears. Finally the group of soldiers left the ladder well each one jeering as how their victims had died. "Why did you just murder them in cold blood," the officer demanded suddenly her look cross. The soldier in charge looked at her and shrugged, "What concern is it of yours." They left unchallenged. School was cancelled, half of the teachers and the principal had been part of the hiding and guarding of Vendricks. Veronica never did make friends then, in fact it seemed that she was just even more disliked. She found out by listening in on a discussion with her parents and the MSF officer months later that Vendricks had done nothing other than escape from some lab and one of the Teachers had been a Sister. She had felt so bad that she decided that she could no longer search for the truth of things, she didn't want to be the one that killed innocent people. By the time she graduated from E9 Class she still had no friends and no one would talk to her at all. She was so lonely and scared when she became a Class 4 Student in High School that she was willing to do anything for anyone. Unfortunately for her, High School was going to get more than just lonely, in fact she was about to become too popular. Two weeks had passed and Veronica's sorrows were becoming apparent. She had not said anything about anything from her past and still she was seriously shunned. It was the beginning of the third week in school when she was approached by the Student Body President himself. He seemed friendly and took her under his wing. Despite the fact she was only a Class 4 and he was a Class 1 he seemed to take a great interest into her. In just a few short months she had learned from him several minor skills for the computer one of which was computer hacking. Nearly end of the first quarter of school she had been accept by the Student Body to become their Secretary. It was a rather interesting job she had thought being that she had been noticed throughout the school as now a rather cool and okay chick. Her job was simple, just talk to everyone, type out everything about them possible and give the Student Body the info. She was weary at first but when she started talking and asking the other student questions she found herself enjoying it. She had a knack, strangely, for dealing with people, she never seemed to anger or make herself a target for slander and she returned the favor, or so she thought, in kind. Veronica found herself doing other odd jobs, some would even go so far to say as questionable, with the Student body but she paid it no mind, she was enjoying the spotlight with the others. She liked being invited to parties and doing fun stuff and she didn't want it to end. However it would in a way that would awaken a stronger sense of vindication. On the first day of her Student Class 2 year things had changed she had become stronger in will and opinion. She was like by her classmates and admired by some in the lower classes. She however had noticed as the election for the new Student Body, that something was wrong. A girl and those she had picked to run with her suddenly let it go allowing the group that the last year Student Body had picked an almost sure win. Something felt wrong and as she tried to talk to this girl and those running with her she felt that the election might be running rigged. Through threats and other measures these people who sought to break the undetermined reign of the older Student body had pulled away unwilling to fight. Veronica couldn't get any straight answers of exactly who had done the threats or that if they were really threatened but she felt it had to be true. She would have to confront her compatriots before the election and ask about it. What she didn't know was that she was about to be fired from her unofficial position. "What are you doing here," Last years Student President said flatly, "why aren't you gone." Veronica stood where she was at the door frozen with shock. "Gone," she finally said realization dawning, "I'm being removed?" He nodded, "We have no need for you anymore and your sudden boom of popularity is making things difficult on us. So you are being replaced." "Replaced," anger boiled inside her. "Because I'm liked! Well I don't need any of you!" His gray eyes narrowed, "That fire?" He shook his head, "I made you. You are who you are because of me! You are nothing without..." "We'll see," she snapped. She spun on her heels, flung back her jet black hair, raised her chin, and left the room slamming the door behind her and shattering the cheap window on it. "I'll show him. And he'll be really sorry!" Veronica had no idea that her life was going to take a change, for the good of her future. Veronica wasn't surprised when her ex-compatriots' group had been elected to the school offices. In fact she had hoped nothing would change. The day prior she had gone to the Principle of the school and begged him to allow her to have the unused TV/computer transmission equipment room. He had been reluctant since the Journalism club was going strong, but Veronica was very sure her former comrades had control of them, but he did give in. What the school needed was unfiltered and uncensored information and the best way she could get it to them was via a live feed to the entire community. Using her parents and what money she had she could make the project wondrous and to top that off she had the back ups of all of the data that she had recorded the years previous, she knew that those may come in handy. The only problem was that the data she owned didn't point to anything other than statistics and curiosity. Unless she could link the data to something other than just rigging the Student Body elections and firing her on a whim she would have a short tenure as an interesting media source. Veronica decided than an innocent front for hunting for that link and reported on school events would have to do. At first everything seemed normal and only the whispers of the graduated students disappearing on the lips of the students, it was hard to implicate her enemies if there was no evidence to prove it. Soon she fell into the popular streak and reveled in it as her TV/Online program grew in popularity. The parents loved the inflow of information, the students always knew what was happening and were always prepared when they were called on for decisions. There was one group though that avoided Veronica's camera and they were the Student body. Veronica at first was injured since they had dismissed her she felt that they owed her a few interviews. They ran the events and everything and they hid every time they saw her. Suspicion was next in line, they were hiding something and she wanted to find out what it was. So naturally with all the stuff she was learning she managed to hide a camera in the Student Body Conference room and several rudimentary 'bugs'. She had hoped her amateurish attempt at spying would not be discovered; however, when she noticed the strangely dressed man that walked in with the Student Body she knew that her devices would be discovered. It wasn't because he was strangely dressed, in fact the black spread winged bird on his dark red shirt was mildly fascinating, it was the way he looked about the room. Veronica bit her lower lip too terrified to turn off the camera's transmitter and watched in horror as the man circled the table. In seconds and with casual grace he removed all of her 'bugs' and stared straight at the camera. The Student Body whispered to themselves angrily then suddenly a loud beep echoed through her earpiece. The man removed from his pocket a device with a screen on it. With an evil smile he turned the screen to face the camera and Veronica stood and threw back her chair. They 'knew' who it was now! The device had tracked her signal straight back to her! "You," he said with a dry deadly tone, "Will be next year's prize!" Veronica was so terrified that she took her laptop and VidVisor and left the school. Locking herself away for a week in her room. She didn't go back on her own, her parents were adamant that she return to the school and give her 'public' a reason for disappearing. Not only that it was graduation week and if she wanted to make top of Class 1 next year she would have to be there. Reluctantly she went and she claimed a sudden flu had struck her mute for the week. It was lame but everyone seemed to have accepted it. It was the Student Body that she feared they had connections with something fearful, had she been braver she may have reported her findings that one day to Shinra and its police force, but she wasn't and remained silent. Her silence lasted all the way to the end of the school year and would continue to the end of the next until last year's threat would almost come true. The Graduating class, like last year and the year prior had, were invited to one of the last large houses under the new plate. Of course Veronica would go, she had yet to miss a party and it would make for a good sign off special. Veronica's worries had changed since last year, she had not thought beyond getting her revenge and popularity and now that school was ending she had no idea what she could do. So in being invited it was her hope that an opportunity would present itself to her. Clad in an expensive looking dress, wearing her fashionable VidVisor and toting a newer and smaller camera she arrived drawing attention to her. This year's Student Body had done nothing to her nor had they revealed themselves to her camera and because of this she knew little to nothing of them other than she didn't recognize them from her previous year. After a few drinks she detached herself from the group dragged a friendly young man with her and hand him her Camera. It would be the first time she would have a Cameraman. "This is Veronica Silver Live from the Indarit House," she smiled as she had loved to say it. "Tonight is my last night as the Sector 8 High School Reporter and though it will be sad to go I hope my protégé will do well in my stead." The person in question was a young man who had approached her during midterms. She had liked his interest and immediately began to train him on the S8 Transceiver system, the system that Veronica had upgraded and improved over the years. "Anyway this party is great! I'll be reporting everything to you folks at home." She walked towards a couch where a couple were kissing to their hearts content. "Everything," Veronica said as she turned back to her camera, "even prospective growth in the census." The couple broke away suddenly their cheeks burning red and even some mean looking glares. Veronica smiled and quickly retreated to the punch bowl and poured herself another tasty drink. "Parents, fear not. The drinks are one hundred percent alcohol free." To prove it she downed the entire glass and immediately fell to the floor feeling light headed. Alarmed she tried to stand but found that she couldn't as the room spun. "This isn't funny, who the bloody hell spiked the punch?" Her stomach lurched at her angry protest and she moaned as she laid still. "Veronica? Are you all right," her cameraman asked concerned. "She is unharmed," a familiar voice said and Veronica quickly shot her head up. A terrible mistake as the world continued to move. "Here Veronica drink this." Compelled suddenly by a nicer voice she took the offered drink and smiled warmly at the blurred face. She looked at the cup for a few and then downed it too. She was now totally not well. Gunshots caused the party to come to a grinding halt. Men dressed in black and dark reds entered the house pointing mean looking weapons at the ex-students. Veronica moaned as she fell to her side lying limp. "Veronica, tell me truthfully, do you want to join my side again." Veronica looked at the voice and concentrated on making her vision clearer. It was her first 'employer' the one that had given her all that she had now, the one that had hired her as his secretary. She shook her head and fought against something that compelled her to say yes to him, there was something about this that was setting off alarms with in her. She heard a chuckle suddenly. "She fights you even now. Weakened and at our mercy and she fights." "I told her she had a fire with in her," another familiar voice said. "You'll never break her." "On the contrary," the cold voiced man said smugly. "You have weakened her considerably. She is like a flower. Shut her from her fame and attention and she will wither. She'll be most suspectible to the reprogramming if she doesn't side with us." Veronica looked up, giving them all cold glares, "You...will...not...get...away..." "Oh but we have," he laughed as he stood up towering over her. He reached down and took off her VidVisor and smiled. "We have signal blockers here. We knew you wouldn't come unless you thought you could 'report' about it. You and this trinket aren't too far behind." "The Dark Phoenix will take care of you Veronica," her one time boss said. "But nothing will happen to you if you would just join..." Veronica looked at him her blue eyes mirroring the anger and pain inside her. "How...can I," She demanded harshly. "When I don't know...what it is...I'll be doing." "You'll be doing what I'm doing," he said with a soft smile, "Recruiting today's soldiers for the future." Veronica yawned and felt her eyes get heavier, her stomach moaned, and the room's spin began to slow. "For...whose future..." "It's pointless now your drugs have failed in gaining her as an ally." "I can turn her," he begged. "No. She's worth more money to us as a slave." Veronica flashed her eyes open her mind suddenly focused on the Dark Phoenix member. She felt the drugs leave her body and she spun with a look of hatred on her face on her once employer. Slavery! How dare they! "You would dare sell me! Sell us, to someone!" Something in her snapped, this injustice couldn't go unpunished. The men that had taken the house and its populace hostage turned suddenly their faces paling. Her employer ran to another man his eyes wide but the Leader of this group stood firm and unyielding. "Yes," he said coldly. "I would take you myself but I have no use for a girl like you. Not even in bed." Her eyes flashed and she felt something inside her rage like that of a windstorm. "I will..." "You will what!" Suddenly the door was busted down and the screams of the shock and fright rippled through the room. The leader's eyes grew wide with shock and he rushed to grab her. Veronica fended him off weakly as her momentary burst of strength wore off. Eventually he grabbed her and pulled her struggling form to his smelly body. She stopped her struggles immediately as a gun was put roughly to her temple. "How did you do this, we had blocked you signal," he whispered in her ear angrily. "I had changed my signal from last year to a newer stronger one because of your little threat," she said smugly. "SOLDIER will kill you all." "You bitch!" He pressed his weapon harder against her. The SOLDIERS that entered stopped suddenly as they saw the arising hostage situation. "Let me go," he demanded as he faced his enemies. Veronica pulled in the last of her strength and brought the heel of her shoe down on his leg, sliding it painfully down to his toes. He threw her aside crying out in pain then gasped as SOLDIER descended on him. In seconds he was dead as they all took the opportunity to shoot him. Just as the remainder of the men were rounded up Veronica closed her eyes and collapsed to the floor with a weak sigh. Veronica was later approached by News agencies across Midgar for the dramatic presentation of her report to the parents and authorities around the high school. Veronica, feeling that all her skills went to her school reporting, decided to accept one of the job proposals. She was accepted as a good reporter but she wasn't allowed to do a lot of things as they were to afraid of her quick and free-minded opinions. Eventually as she was debating her dead end job nearly four years later things began to pick up. AVALANCHE had destroyed 2 of Midgar's reactors and she was there to report them. At that time her voice was directed at the rebel group as many had died in the destruction. Then when President Rufus's scheme to kill all of Lower Midgar was publicized through her signal on the Shinra Square screen she was furious. Not only at Rufus and his dirty and evil ploys to murder innocent people but also at the hijackers that had made the news agency she worked for blame her. She almost quit then and there opportunities in Junon had grown but then MNN Approached her and convinced her to report for them. She has been with MNN for three years now and she is having questions once again about her job. ~~ -Mother: Alexis Silver -Father: Eric Silver -Siblings: None -Mate: No one Yet -Children: None -Pets: None -Birthplace: Midgar ~~ -Weapons: None, just her camera and Visor Vidmic. -Armour: None, none just her speed. -Materia: None ~~ -Other notes: None
