Company (now no longer a monopoly) **General Appearance: Spoiled rich kid. But REALLY pissed off at losing a major base of operations. In public however, he's the happiest guy around. **Personality: Winning, charming, uplifting and jovial.... But only to the public. In private he's a cold, scheming business man who'll stop at nothing to get what he wants. And what he wants is Midgar back under his thumb. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Character Information ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ -Name: Rufus Shinra -Age: 25 (I suppose) -Race: Human -Birthday: June 2nd -Gender: M -Height: 5'10 -Weight: ??? Pretty light though, I suppose. -Hair (color and style): Blonde and slicked back, with a few stray forelocks falling over his forehead. -Eyes: Cold, hard blue. But in public: Happy, smiling blue. Whatta guy. -Complexion: Clean, young and handsome. -Voice: A tenor. Public: a tremolous voice that makes people feel proud to live under Shinra. Private: Low and business like. Has no time for niceties. -Build: Slight and soft, but there is some indication of having worked out.... Though in a "fitness program regimented everyday" way rather than "years of hard military service" way. -Facial Features: Clean shaven and handsome, though a bit cold in private. In public.... Well, you know the drill. -Identifying Marks: Wears a black glove over his right hand. -Dress/Clothing/Jewelry: Wears a white silk suit. Which shows how rich he really is. Can you imagine the dry cleaning bill he has with that thing? -General Appearance: Public: The kind of man you'd invite into your own home for dinner. Private: No way, man. You don't wanna cross im. He's really pissed at losing control of Midgar. ~~ -Occupation: President of Shinra Inc. Company. -Secondary Skills: None particularly prevalent. -Extra abilities: He's an excellent shot with a shotgun, able to keep it steady despite its recoil, which shows he has some measure of weapons training. -Hobbies: Torturing cute little woodland animals. Okay no, it's playing chess. Possibly against Tseng. ~~ -Personality: Well, I think you can probably guess by now: In public, Rufus appears to be a kind, open person, trying to win back a lawless and decadent Midgar for the good of the people at Junon. In private he's all business like, however. He's coldly calculating and intense, and it's clear that if he doesn't let up, he's going to develop an ulcer. ~~ -Background: Having lived most of his life out of Midgar and away from his father, he nevertheless feels a certain kinship with "home". He was born in Midgar, but not as the rich, spoiled child he has become now, but rather as a street urchin to a woman who could barely support herself, much less a child. Realising that there was no way she could keep the baby, the mother left the child in an orphanage, where she knew he'd have a better chance of surviving. She left one momento to remind him that she did this for his own benefit however: a small locket, made of some metal that was badly corroding, in the shape of a heart. His first years in the orphanage were quiet, happy ones. Everyone there was equal: everyone didn't have parents or family, so there was no sense of loss or inferiority amongst the children there. It was safe in the orphanage, and Rufus (as he was named by the caretakers of the orphanage, his mother hadn't left him a name) was content with life within the walls he learned to call home. Then, when he was 9 or so, came the day of THE adoption. While children had been adopted and sent off to a "better home" (which Rufus then seriously doubted, where could there be a better place than the orphanage?) before, this was different: President Shinra himself was coming around to inspect and adopt several children from different age groups in order to find a suitable heir. While Rufus wasn't sure what "heir" meant, he was supremely confident that he would be able to remain at the orphanage. He'd "failed" every other inspection before, why should this one be any different? So he lined up with the other children of his age group, ready to be dismissed by the old man as unsuitable for the task. To his utter dismay, however, he was chosen, included with 20 others, and was taken away from the orphanage. Once again he was without a home. What followed from there was a complete hell for young Rufus. The orphans were educated and trained rigorously, in many different fields, expected to work for all hours of the day to their very breaking point. Many didn't survive the first week, and were taken away from the testing chambers, worn out shells of their former selves. Rufus considered faking a breakdown in order to relieve himself of all this pain, but the few times he tried he was found out, and forced to work even harder. But even with the extra workload, Rufus managed to excell. While others fell around him like flies on a hot summer day, Rufus preservered and came out on top, coming out as the best of the entire selection. President Shinra, seeing his efforts, congratulated him by legally making Rufus his son, and thereby his heir. Rufus wasn't too sure whether or not the reward was worth the pain, but after a while he did enjoy the monetary gains that came soon enough. His teenage years were spent in relative luxury, and though there were still lessons to attend, they were less intense and far more enjoyable than the information cramming exercises he had to complete in order to rise from orphan to son of Shinra. He even made some friends while living in the Shinra headquarters in Midgar, among them a young Turk by the name of Tseng, who at the time was a young reckless hotshot. But through it all he never had any love or deep respect for Pres. Shinra, and in time this would cause him to distance himself by moving to Junon and setting up the secondary base there. Only when he found out that his "father" had died, did he move back to Midgar to take control of the company. (The rest of the history: How he came back to Midgar, the black poison gas attack etc. is all covered in the history section of ToM. Check it out for the bits I missed here) When he came back to Junon from Midgar in disgrace, he quickly wove a story about AVALANCHE stealing a highly toxic experimental substance that was supposed to have been destroyed, and releasing it upon the city of Midgar themselves. After destroying several sectors, AVALANCHE offered the city a chance to surrender their governement to them, or they would continue their reckless assault on the innocent populace. Unable to do anything else, Rufus had to leave the city in the hands of AVALANCHE, lest they did any more damage. And that's the story most Junons believe. So now Rufus is stuck in Junon with the remnants of Shinra, and an unhealthy dose of rage at having Midgar taken away from him. While he had tried to destroy the city with the gas attack, at the same time he loved that place of darkness and lifestream drainage. Much like the relationship he has with his mother: a deep love for her, because she cared enough for him to give him up to a better place, but at the same time a deep sense of resentment at being abandoned, and then forced to go through the trial he did to reach where he was today. Perhaps he would have been better off as.... someone else. Someone whose life wasn't as completely screwed up as his was right now. And the only person who could help him answer that question is his mother, and the only thing connecting Rufus to her was the small, rusty locket. ~~ -Affiliation/Organization: Shinra Inc. Company. -Reputation with various groups: With (loyal) Shinra supporters he is the last best hope for humanity and order. For the others back at Midgar.... Well, he's pretty much pondscum for releasing the poison gas that wiped out a couple of sectors. ~~ -Mother: Unknown. Is believed dead. -Father: President Shinra. Or "the old man". -Siblings: None. Or dead. There can only be one heir to daddy's legacy, afterall. -Mate: None -Children: None -Pets: None -Birthplace: Midgar -Current Residence: Junon ~~ -Weapons: Shotgun, if he has to get his hands dirty. But prefers to let his security force handle his dirty work. -Armour: None -Materia: None -Other items: A locket that once supposedly belonged to his mother. ~~ -Other notes: None
