-General Appearance: Although Jacob has a job on top of the plate, his pale 
flesh and dull eyes identify his real home as the slums.  Although he is able 
to keep his clothing clean, Jacob's clothing is not always in the best of 
repair and he has to make due with a lot of clothing that does not fit 
properly.  
 
-Personality: The decisive moment in Jacob's life came when it was revealed 
that Shinra was behind the Black 36.  From that moment on, he became 
extremely cynical of not only civil and legal authorities, but of people in 
general. Jacob is now very secretive and has no close friends.  Because of 
this, his social skills are almost non-existent.  In addition, Jacob became 
convinced that mankind was destined to destroy itself either through wars or 
by destroying the planet so he is pessimistic and often visibly depressed.

-Reputation with various groups: After the truth was revealed about Black 36 
and the Shinra Revolution took place, Jacob became enamored with AVALANCHE 
and wanted to join them in fighting for the planet.  Unfortunately, the 
advent of democracy in Midgar and the end to Mako power in the city led to 
the dissolution of AVALANCHE.  He never even managed to meet any of the rebel 
group's members.  Jacob despises Shinra and especially his father's company, 
MNN.

-Background: Jacob was actually born into a wealthy family.  His father was 
the CEO of the largest media conglomerate in Shinra, the Midgar News Network 
and his mother was a wealthy actress.  Although MNN was bought up by the 
Shinra Corporation, his father became Shinra's Minister of Public Awareness.  
Jacob probably would have had a very good life, except that there were 
complications with his birth and his mother died within hours of Jacob being 
born.  His father, the influential Gerard Tempkins, never forgave Jacob for 
her death.  While his older sister, Hannah, received lavish gifts and praise 
from their father, Jacob was virtually ignored except for being the target of 
his father's scorn.  Jacob finally had enough and ran away from home to live 
in the slums.  Eluding SOLDIER and the MSF officers that were sent to find 
him, he grew up in poverty beneath the Sector One Plate.  Despite the abuse 
heaped upon him by his father, Jacob idolized him and Shinra during his 
youth.  He dreamt of one day returning home as a successful part of Shinra.  
When the war between AVALANCHE and Shinra broke out, Jacob was among the few 
Shinra supporters in the slums.  However, when Shinra's complicity in the 
Black 36 Conspiracy was revealed, his world was shattered.  In the chaos that 
immediately followed the Shinra Revolution, Jacob's father was able to use 
his media to portray himself as a hero that bravely resisted Shinra in the 
tradition of Reeve, rather than as the willing collaborator and architect of 
the anti-AVALANCHE media campaign.  Gerard Tempkins was thus able to take 
control of his old Midgar News Network and has since become one of the 
biggest media bosses in Shinra.  Jacob, however, was not deceived by his 
father's revisionism and his one-time idol has become an object of hatred to 
him.  AVALANCHE disbanded before Jacob could join, so left with no hopes, no 
dreams, and no friends, Jacob became a janitor at the newly rebuilt Sector 
One Public School.
